Hi everyone, firstly let me start off by saying I'm not familiar with Perl scripting and I am logging this to try and get to the bottom of an issue another team are having when using the vmcreate.pl script.
I do most of my deployment and automation using PowerCLI but another team has decided to use the Perl SDK, specifically the VMCreate.pl script. We have several vSphere 5.5 implementations and most of the time this works fine, however every now and then, they get authentication failures. Doesn't appear to be any pattern to when it happens, or on which vCenter instance. it can be any of them but always pops us as 'authentication failed'.
We've checked privileges within vCenter and for the user accounts in question, they all seem fine. For example, if the user account having a problem were to log in via web client or desktop client, all access is available to them. usually, the problem rectifies itself and the team will come in one morning and report that it is working fine (usually after a week or two of not being able to deploy VMs). Even though nothing has changed.
